 Family has an ostrich farm

The Sabo family has an ostrich farm in Edmonton. They sell ostrich meat, leather, eggs and feathers.

About ostriches

  • Ostriches are the largest living birds in the world. Ostriches can’t fly.
  • Ostriches can live 50 to 75 years.
  • They can run up to 60 kilometres per hour.
  • An ostrich hen lays about 60 eggs per year. The eggs hatch in 42 days.

2009 update

  • The Sabo family doesn’t have an ostrich farm anymore. They sold their land in 2007.
  • The family misses the ostriches. The birds made a beautiful sound: “who, who, whooooooo.”
