Aboriginal Programs and Services
Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training is committed to enhancing participation of Aboriginal people in the trades. To demonstrate this commitment, the Enhancing Aboriginal Participation in the Trades Communication Initiative document outlines the following key themes:
- Aboriginal people need quality and meaningful information about the trades
- this information must be supported by increased face-to-face contact
- Aboriginal youth need to hear the success stories of Aboriginal role models
The Step into the Trades Apprenticeship Guide was developed as part of this initiative. It is intended to be used as one component of a presentation offered to Aboriginal students interested in apprenticeship training in Alberta.
Apprenticeship Preparation for Aboriginal People (APAP)
Apprenticeship Preparation for Aboriginal People (APAP) is a jointly-funded project between Human Resources and Skills Development Canada and Advanced Education and Technology that
- prepares Aboriginal people to enter the workforce
- ensures Aboriginal people have the necessary skills to maintain steady employment and pursue an apprenticeship program
