Questions from RESP Providers
1. I have a specific question about how to submit an ACES Plan grant application on behalf of a client. Who should I contact?Your head office has received comprehensive training from the Canada Education Savings Program (CESP). Because procedures at each RESP provider differ, all questions should be directed to your head office.
2. My client was living in Alberta when their child was born (or turned an eligible age) but now lives in another province. How do they apply?
Please follow the steps below to apply:
-
Complete a Request for Ministry Review form, available by email from
ACES@gov.ab.ca or from your head office.
-
On the Ministry Review form check the box “Alberta Residency of Parent/Legal Guardian” and in the section below explain the client’s situation.
-
Attach a photocopy of the client’s proof of Alberta residency during the time their child was born or turned the eligible age. Examples of proof of Alberta residency include a utility bill or tax statement from the same time period as the child’s birth or eligible age.
-
Mail the completed form to the address indicated on the form. After the request is reviewed by Ministry officials, a letter will be sent directly to your client informing them of a decision.
-
If the request is approved, complete the ACES Plan application form with your client and submit the application and the approval letter to your head office for processing.
If you are unsure whether the child is eligible for an ACES Plan grant, read Who is Eligible.
3. We presently are not set up to offer the ACES Plan grants to our clients. What is the process to get involved?Your head office should contact the
Canada Education Savings Program to initiate the process. Several configurations must be made to your electronic systems to align with the federal/provincial tracking and accountability requirements for RESP grants.
